Desire brings us to the last mile. Tools, Internet access, education, resources and nutrition are Last Miles.

Bring desire, passion and commitment, we’ve got your last miles covered.

What are last miles? Last miles are best described as the most critical and essential elements of a thriving community that assures the successful participation in robust complex labor markets.

We consider digital tools and devices to be a last mile essential. Broadband Internet access is a last mile. Education, resources and nutrition are all last mile essentials.

A member of an underserved community equipped with desire, passion and time—but without these essentials—is constrained and prevented from participating in the complex labor markets of today and in the future.

By no fault of their own, they are prevented from closing the gap—crossing the digital divide. They’re marooned just outside our robust economy and suffer unfathomably.

Underserved communities miss out on key opportunities which are not only commonplace in well-served communities, but often taken for granted.

In well-served communities, “[t]he private, public and non-profit sectors are all [too] important in attracting new investment and in developing new businesses that suit the character of the community and meet its needs.

The need to sustain successful workplaces is an important factor to the health of a community. The more often money circulates within the community before leaving, the more the community benefits.

A healthy [well-served] community includes access to a variety of environmentally sound businesses, industries, and institutions that provide reasonable wages and benefits to workers, engage in family-friendly policies, provide workers with opportunities to develop marketable skills, and contribute to the overall well being of the community.”

To put it more plainly, underserved communities lack the essentials to compete as well as contribute to society in a meaningful way.

School age children today are our workforce of tomorrow. Every member of the broader community deserves the same opportunities enjoyed by many and unevenly distributed to some.

Every person with the passion and desire to make a difference to improve and sustain their community through the creation of opportunities, businesses, employment and investments, deserves a chance. An equal chance.

We believe the harsh reality of “lack” has left tens of millions of Americans out of commerce. With the devastating impacts of Covid-19 amplified among underserved communities today, long lasting impacts have yet to be quantified. It is with confidence, that we believe underserved communities will be the slowest to recover—if ever.

LastMiles.org has been formed for the sole purpose of increasing the rate of recovery by provisioning resources for our communities as soon as possible, so as to significantly improve the chances of success with computing devices, Internet access, educational training resources and nutrition basics.

LastMiles.org is a publicly funded not-for-profit and has not yet received its 501.(c)(3) confirmation from the United States Internal Revenue Service. Any donation made to LastMiles.org ahead of the confirmation will not be tax deductible.

Broadband Internet Access

Broadband Internet Access is the first non-nutrition-based Last Mile Essential (LME) our underserved communities must have in order to cross the chasm of the digital divide. According to the research results presented by Lee Rainie, Director of Internet and Technology Research at the Pew Research Center, October 2020, when asked whether Broadband Internet Access has been essential during the pandemic, “65% of Hispanic respondents stated ‘yes',’ followed closely by 52% of Black respondents.” 50% of White respondents said Broadband Internet Access has been essential during the pandemic. Last Miles provides assistance to our communities that must have access to the Internet, but are unable to afford the cost of this LME.

Education Basic Training

Last Miles, founded to bring direct impact reducing relief to underserved communities, directly intervenes with desperately needed impact relief that includes the provisioning of educational skills loss stop-gap measures designed specifically for the underserved community and provide necessary tools, computing devices, broadband access and basic education skills development support to contribute to the rapid recovery and success of school age students within our underserved communities.

“With the support from Last Mile partners, team members, community leaders and volunteers, together we’re serving our community’s students like never before.”

— Padraic M., Founder
